I have been plagued by this problem for weeks now. I have been told that lately, Adobe Reader has been behaving rather erratic. The issue will occur immediately after opening a PDF document. When a document is opened, it will proceed normally and then the menu and title bars will simply vanish. It looked like it was cropped.

Naturally, I thought it was just a glitch of Adobe Reader and that an update would solve the problem. After updating, I tried and the menu and title bars are still disappearing. This is not a big problem, but as you know, even a small problem like this is disruptive and may cause significant productivity issues. Although we can bring back the menu and title bar by pressing the F9 key, it has to be corrected.

The F9 key will show the missing menu and title bars.

I did a reinstall but the problem persisted. I installed a previous version but it’s still the same. I got frustrated so I decided to remove it altogether and installed Sumatra PDF. I figured that I should give myself time to think why this happens and how to resolve it.

After some time, I decided to tackle the issue again. Same as always, I turned to forums and discussions related to what I’m experiencing. I found one recommended solution that I thought wouldn’t work because it’s a bit far fetched.

It was recommended that I update my Kaspersky Internet Security. What?! How can someone come up with that idea? I don’t know it it’s genius or just dumb luck. Anyway, I tried it. My version was 15.0.0.463(b). I downloaded an update of KIS from their website, and installed it. Why can’t they just integrate the updating like Avast does?!

It was a good recommendation. It solved my problem. The menu and title bars of Adobe Reader doesn’t disappear anymore. I’m still scratching my head wondering why the heck would Kaspersky Internet Security interfere with another program’s behavior. Maybe, this is just how it detects malicious programs. It’s still strange that it would miss this bug affecting Adobe Reader which is used by a lot of people.

It’s certainly a bug. I’m just not sure whether Kaspersky or Adobe is responsible. Either way, kudos to Kaspersky for providing a patch.

Update Kaspersky Internet Security to the latest version to correct missing title and menu bars.
